About the university

Louisiana State University is a public coeducational university located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. LSU is the flagship institution of the Louisiana State University System. In 2015, the university enrolled over 26,000 undergraduate and over 5,000 graduate students in 14 schools and colleges. Several of LSU's graduate schools, such as the E.J. Ourso College of Business and the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, have received national recognition in their respective fields of study. Designated as a land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant institution, LSU is also noted for its extensive research facilities, operating some 800 sponsored research projects funded by agencies such as the National Institutes

of Health, the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Although the Olmsted firm had originally envisioned a Spanish or Mexican style design for the university, there are plenty of attractive actions to do here: take a walk around the lakes, catch a show at one of many theaters or visit one of the galleries or museums on campus, Movie nights, guest lectures, and concerts. No matter what time of year, there are events and activities for any student to enjoy.

University Location

Baton Rouge is the capital of the U.S. state of Louisiana. It forms the parish seat of East Baton Rouge Parish, and is located on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River. The Baton Rouge area owes its historical importance to its strategic site upon the Istrouma Bluff, the first natural bluff upriver from the Mississippi River Delta. In addition, the city built a levee system stretching from the bluff southward to protect the riverfront and low-lying agricultural areas. The city is a culturall

y rich center with settlement by immigrants from numerous European nations and African peoples. Every year, Baton Rouge hosts many Mardi Gras parades, the largest one being held in the historic Spanish Town, among many other events that take place throughout the year.
