Saint Louis University (SLU) is a private Roman Catholic four-year research university with campuses in St. Louis, Missouri, United States and Madrid, Spain. It is the oldest university west of the Mississippi River, and the 2nd oldest Jesuit university in the United States founded in 1818. For nearly 50 years the university has maintained a campus in Madrid, Spain. The Madrid campus was the first freestanding campus operated by an American university in Europe and the first American institution to be recognized by Spain's higher education authority as an official foreign university. University Location

Saint Louis is a major port city in the state of Missouri, built along the western bank of the Mississippi River. It was originally founded by French fur traders, who named the city after Louis IX of France. Its history has been heavily influenced by Western expansion and blues music. While the Gateway Arch is one of the most prominent landmarks in the city, visitors should also see the Museum of Westward Expansion, the St. Louis Cathedral and go on the Anheuser-Busch factory tour.
