University Location

Eau Claire is a city in Chippewa and Eau Claire counties in the west-central part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin, close to where the Eau Claire River meets the Chippewa. The name means “clear water”, and is part of the city’s motto that states, “Here there is clear water”. Local legend has it that French explorers exclaimed this as they initially stumbled upon the area. Besides rivers and lakes, the landscape of the city consists of sloping river valleys and an urban area expanding into an incre

asingly hilly terrain. Eau Claire has a modest but active theater community. Although no professional theater groups make their home in the region, amateur and community theaters have a significant presence here.
