About the university

The University of Nottingham was the first civic college in the city, opened in the city’s center in 1881. In 1928, the campus moved to University Park, the current location of the main campus. In 1948 the university was awarded the Royal Charter and officially became the University of Nottingham, able to award degrees in its own name. Today, the university is in the top one percent of universities worldwide and is ranked in the UK and European top 30. Additionally, the university was rated eighth for research power in the latest Research Excellence Framework. Nottingham represents an international student body, with students that come from more than 150 different countries. Worldwide, the

university has almost 44,000 students, 33,000 of who are actually based in the city of Nottingham. The facilities on the university’s campuses are state of the art and include buildings for art and performances, conferences and events, sports, health, and technologically advanced libraries.
