Located in Southampton on the southern coast of England, the Southampton University dates back to 1862. In 1902, it became a university college, and in 1952 became an independent university through royal charter. Before 1952 it was awarded the University of London academic degree and is now a member of the Russell University Group. The student population is 23,315, 6,850 of who are undergoing postgraduate studies. The university has eight faculties, each with a number of academic courses.
