The University of Pittsburgh is a state-related research university, founded as the Pittsburgh Academy in 1787. Pitt is a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), which comprises 63 preeminent doctorate-granting research institutions in North America. University of Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh Campus provides a high quality education at a lower than average cost than other schools of similar quality. The Pittsburgh campus also has 17 libraries, the largest being the Hillman Library, which contains around 1.5 million books spread over five floors, with a study capacity for 1,500 users.
