Dublin City University (DCU) was founded in 1980 as National Institute for Higher Education, Dublin, before gaining university status in 1989. Currently, it enrolls 17,000 students and boasts an alumni network of over 50,000. In order to make education accessible to more students around the globe, D~cU also offers online courses to over 1,200 students living abroad and attending the school remotely.
