Broadstairs is a seaside town on the Isle of Thanet in the Thanet district of east Kent, England. it’s only 90 minutes from London. The town grew up around a sheltered, horseshoe-shaped bay close to the older inland village of St Peter’s. Named after the ‘broad stairs’ carved into the chalk cliff that led from the beach to the 12th century shrine of St Mary, its original population – mostly farmers and fishermen – remained small for centuries. It was only when the professional classes began to arrive in the middle of the 19th century that Broadstairs began to increase in size. Broadstairs' spectacular coastline contain seven sandy beaches and bucket loads of seaside charm.. In Broadstairs you'll find fishermen's cottages, clifftop walks and independent shops lining streets. The town was Charles Dickens' favourite holiday spot and his legacy includes Dickens House Museum. The town’s headline stretch is a pristine crescent of sand that shelters a tidal pool, and there are the clifftop Victoria Gardens and Bleak House –the lofty spot where Dickens wrote ‘David Copperfield’.
