English Language and Culture Institute - ELCI
The English Language and Culture Institute was founded in Monmouth, Oregon, and has since expanded to two other campuses in Oregon and Utah. The Institute prides itself on its ability to welcome each student into a friendly atmosphere with small class sizes and plenty of one-on-one attention. Students stay with carefully-selected host families in order to practice their English outside the classroom as well as learn about American customs and holidays, and ELCI plans a whole range of extracurricular activities for students that brings lighthearted fun to the learning process. A more serious but incredibly rewarding activity is the monthly service project which allows students to connect to the community through volunteer work.
The Utah campus of ELCI is located in downtown Salt Lake City, nestled in a valley between snow-capped mountains and on the shores of the Great Salt Lake. During the winter, students will be able to experience some of the greatest skiing in the world along with other quintessential Utah winter sports. Warmer weather affords students the opportunity to hike through Arches National Park, visit the canyon of Zion National Park, or walk the nearby City Creek Canyon Trail. Though always close to nature, Salt Lake City is also a modern city that hosted the Olympics in 2002 and is home to plenty of amenities such as restaurants, museums, shopping venues, and art galleries. This ELCI campus offers full or part-time English classes, academic English to prepare students for high school or college, intensive classes that include exam preparation, and a special pathways program that helps students gain direct or conditional admission to partnering universities.
