Torquay International School
Located in a large town on the southern coast of England, Torquay International School offers a variety of English language courses which, coupled with experiences to subsidize the curriculum, emphasize retention. Founded in 1972, TIS accepts students from a variety of levels and walks of life, including beginning-level speakers, mid-level speakers who also want to study reading and writing, professionals, and mature students. Class sizes are always limited to twelve students or fewer, though Professional English is offered as one-on-one instruction. Torquay International School also prepares students for the Cambridge English Exams (FCE, CAE and CPE), the IELTS, and the legal TOLES exam, all of which can be taken on-site at the school or at a nearby location in Torquay.
In order to enhance language and culture acquisition, TIS faculty plan optional weekly outings and social events. Torquay, known as the "English Riviera" because of its warm temperatures, is an ideal town for these outings with its beaches, water sports, caves, theaters, and aquarium. Students can experience the height of English culture by visiting the locations that inspired Torquay native Agatha Christie. Though private accommodations are available at a local bed and breakfast or nearby apartments, students who wish to further immerse themselves in the English language are welcome to stay with a host family selected by the school. For students who are looking for an all-encompassing learning experience, Torquay International School is the perfect choice.
