Accent Français
Winner of multiple StudyTravel Star awards and accredited by the FLE and other national organizations, Accent Francais offers a top-tier French education. Accent Francais has a diverse, energetic team whose members speak eight languages and specialize in various subsets of the French language (such as literature, politics, and business), so students will always be able to find someone to help them with their individual needs. Courses offered include General French, career-based specialty courses, DELF/DALF exam preparation, and gap year programs, and students can take advantage of private tutoring or the free e-learning platform. Accommodations include private apartments or home stays with about 50% of students choosing to stay with a local French family.
The Accent Francais campus is housed in a 19th century building that has been refurbished and equipped with 23 classrooms and modern technology. Right outside the building, students will be able to access public transportation in order to explore Montpellier and other areas of France. For students who choose to stay with their peer group for planned activities and excursions, a guide will always be provided to create a familiar environment of camaraderie among students and to help students adjust to French culture. Students may wish to tour the artistic Fabre museum, visit landmarks designed by Louis XIV, or discourse with fellow students and locals over coffee at the Place de la Comedie. With a population of just over a quarter million, and with a cost of living much lower than that in Paris, students will enjoy the quieter experience of learning French in a small city while still partaking in all the offerings of French culture.
Population: 286,000
On the Southern coast of France is the historically-rich university city of Montpellier. With a population of 286,000 and a metro area of over half a million, Montpellier is the third largest Mediterranean city in France and the seventh largest city in the country. Almost a third of the population is made up of university students, creating a city-wide culture of innovation, academia, and modernity. This emphasis on education is ingrained in the history of the city as the University of Montpellier, one of the oldest universities in the world, boasts law, medical, and literature programs that date back to 1160 at the latest. Today Montpellier is home to three large universities and eleven Grand Ecoles that focus on science and business. The youthful population of the city drives the cultural highlights of the area with Montpellier hosting several professional sports leagues, concert venues, and a film festival that is second only to Cannes. Evidence of the city's history mark each area of the town with triumphant arches, fountains, and statues, and the Promenade du Peyrou gives residents and visitors a place to walk and leisurely explore some of the most famous of these historical markers. The evolution of the arts in Montpellier is on display at the Musee Fabre, and the Place de la Comedie square, built on the location of Montpellier's ancient walls, is the perfect place to take in the city's beautiful architecture, relax at a cafe, or enjoy the theater. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the Mediterranean weather is mild in the winter and warm in the summer, allowing visitors to enjoy some of the best sandy beaches in France. Montpellier has the perfect combination of historical ambiance, Mediterranean beauty, and modern intellectualism.
