It was officially established on July 1, 2016, as a result of the merger between the Kecskemét and Szolnok colleges and adopted its current name on August 1, 2017, in honor of the renowned Hungarian-American scientist John von Neumann. Despite its recent foundation, the university builds on a rich academic heritage spanning decades. The Faculty of Engineering in Kecskemét, considered the university’s legal predecessor, was founded in 1964.
