Thinking of taking your undergraduate studies somewhere new, exciting, and adventurous? The UAE may be exactly what you’re looking for. Here’s a list of a few of the best scholarships in the UAE to help you get there:

University of Wollongong in Dubai

The University of Wollongong in Dubai offers a variety of Academic Excellence Scholarships, categorized into 3 distinct groups: 15% scholarship, 30% scholarship, or 50% scholarship. While these do not cover the cost of textbooks, excursions, accommodation, living expenses, cutting tuition in half is well worth your efforts.

Here are the minimum eligibility requirements for the scholarship:

  • Scholarships are available to students of any citizenship
  • Scholarships are open to new (entry level) students
  • Scholarships will be awarded to students that have achieved the minimum grade requirements (found here)
  • Scholarships are awarded to students who meet all of the academic and admission criteria for the University and intend to enroll in the relevant session for which they have applied.

University of Dubai

The University of Dubai provides many generous scholarship opportunities to its highly qualified students.

Recently, the school has introduced a merit-based scholarship, offering 50% tuition discount for undergraduate courses to outstanding students scoring 90% and above in high school or who maintain a cumulative CGPA of 3.6 or above during their full-time study at University of Dubai. The plan includes all transfer and international students who are admitted to UD.

Partial Scholarships are also offered by the university, in increments of either 4 or 8 free courses throughout a student’s tenure at the institution. To be eligible for 8 free courses, a student must complete the SAT, meet English requirements (IELTS/TOEFL) and provide a high school score of 70% and above. To be eligible for 4 free courses, applicants must have completed their high school outside the borders of UAE.

American University in the Emirates

The American University in the Emirates has announced the implementation of up to 40 scholarships for the 2017-2018 academic year. This is up from 15 tuition-covering scholarships in 2016-2017. The scholarships do not cover the cost of textbooks, housing, or any courses taken outside of AUE, but do provide great benefits to their recipients.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:

  • Recommendation letter from secondary school (not more than 3 months old)
  • English proficiency certificate with following scores or higher:
  • ILETS: 5.5
  • TOEFL PBT: 527
  • TOEFL IBT: 70
  • emSAT English 1250
  • Motivation letter indicating intended field of study
  • Certificate of good conduct from past education institutions
  • 4 passport-sized photos

The deadline this year was end of July, so keep an eye out for the next cycle.

Murdoch University

Murdoch University in Dubai offers scholarships to incoming and existing students covering values of up to 25% tuition. In order to be considered for this scholarship, students must provide 2 academic references, an original copy of their transcripts from previous academic institutions, and their scholastic achievements (GPA average).

The eligibility requirements for international students are highly specific to their prior country of study. See below for details:

  • British curriculum (GCSE): 2-3 subjects at A Levels with grades "10 points" (average A) or above along with at least 5 subjects at O-Levels
  • British curriculum O Levels 8 subjects with (average B) or above
  • American High School: Successful completion of the high school diploma with overall GPA 3.5 and SAT 1650
  • Indian & Pakistani national curriculum: completion of FSC/HSC / CBSE/ ICSE with minimum grade of "75%"
  • IB curriculum – diploma minimum 30 points (UG)
  • Student must maintain a distinction in each unit and must show evidence of leadership and participation in extracurricular activities.
